Our Irish Whole Shell Mussels are a fantastic simple supper and perfect for a quick midweek treat. Lift the natural sweetness of the mussels with a punchy Whiskey cream sauce, or add to a Thai Red Curry mix for a real kick. Mussels are a great addition to your diet as they are high in zinc, iron and vitamins A and B12.

This is one of the easiest things you will ever cook! Simply tip the contents of the bag into a pan, turn up the heat to high, pop on a lid and shake occasionally until cooked a few minutes later. Whole shell mussels work perfectly with garlic, tomato and white wine, as well as many other herbs and spices. They include naturally occurring salt due to being a product of the sea and bring a whole array of health benefits, such as being an excellent source of vitamin B12, zinc, folate and omega 3.

The classic method for cooking mussels is by steaming them. Heat a large heavy bottomed pan with a tightly fitting lid over a high heat, add the mussels and a splash of water and quickly replace the lid. Cook for 1-2 minutes until all the shells have opened. Discard any unopened shells. Sometimes I add a few table spoons of my favourite shop bought Green or Red curry paste and at that as part of the steaming process, serving with freshly torn coriander.
We source our Irish mussels from our friends at Connemara Seafood, Connemara is situated on the West Coast of Ireland and the processing facility is located directly on the coastline; where the Mussels are harvested. The rope-grown Mussels are all sustainably harvested, taking care of the local environment and supporting this local industry for future generations.
